We at rentaquarium predominantly use a particular species of
fish known as African cichlids (pronounced 'sick-lids'). These fish
originate from some of the oldest (some as old as 25 million years) and deepest lakes in the world located in eastern Africa,
and at present there are more than 1200 different and unique
species that have been identified.

African cichlids are ranked amongst the most sought after and 
popular fish to keep for hobbyists and enthusiasts. Their popularity
is easy to understand as these fish range dramatically in size,
shape and colour.

From electric yellows and dazzling blues to bold
black and white stripes, African cichlids display
a wide range of beautiful colours.

It is not only their colour that makes these fish appealing but also their unique behaviors, as some cichlids can be very territorial
and will often change their colours right before your eyes to fit
in with their fellow tank mates. Some fish will purposefully display
their full range of dazzling colours to become the dominant fish in
the tank, whilst others will be forced to become sub-dominant and hide their colours until the time comes to challenge for the title!

Cichlids are generally a very social fish and will often display unique mating and courtship behaviours. 

The majority of females in the species are mouthbrooders, meaning that the eggs are fertilized and stored in the mouth cavity for up
to three weeks until the fry develop and are large enough to swim
in open water.

Many cichlids also enjoy digging in the gravel or even excavating under the plants and rocks, picking up gravel in their mouths and spitting it out to form a pile elsewhere in the tank.

Overall, African cichlids are certainly a very unique species of fish and provide an interesting and vibrant focus to any aquarium.

and sits on top of a 90cm high quality colonial style cabinet with matching sloping
hood, both professionally stained in a choice of colours.

ALL PRICES ARE BASED PER MONTH ON A 12 MONTH OR MORE LEASE AGREEMENT AND ARE INCLUSIVE OF ALL
ACCESSORIES AND LIVESTOCK. PRICES INCLUSIVE OF GST.
